Born in 1962, Stéphane Vetter, a native of Alsace who lives in Osenbach, was fascinated by photography and astronomy from an early age. The night fascinates him. He spends hours contemplating and attempting to study the mysterious links that seem to unite Heaven and Earth. He has won several international awards for his photographic work, including 1st prize in the TWAN competition in 2011 and 2013, "Winner" in the "Wild Places" category of the WildLife Photographer of the Year 2011, and several publications in NASA?s Astrono-my Picture of the Day (APOD).
Since the 2000s, he has devoted himself to photographing celestial landscapes, traveling to privileged observation sites (Lac Blanc, Vosges ridges, Grand Ballon, Jökulsárlón in Iceland, etc.) Iceland remains his favorite destination, with seventeen trips since 2011.
Stéphane combines his passion for astronomy with scientific rigor, capturing cosmic phenomena such as sprites (transient lights caused by thunderstorms), comets, constellations and, above all, the northern lights. He combines artistic creativity with scientific rigor. He favors time-lapse to show the movement of the aurora, and uses high-performance equipment to capture the finest details of the night sky. In March 2025, he joined the Ciel Austral team.
