Anglais Les petits graviers de Saint-Pierre", by Laurent Giraudineau
A Breton writer sets out to retrace the steps of his ancestor on the other side of the Atlantic. There, he meets up with his son, a naturalist guide in Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, and passes on to him the fruits of his investigations in Brittany. From Brest to Saint-Malo, he found photos, archive documents, texts and songs from the period, proof that their grandfather was one of those children who were sent to dry cod in the worst possible conditions. Tens of thousands of Breton children were treated like slaves for a century. These children were sacrificed, then erased from the official history of the Great Newfoundland Fishery. Alexis Gloaguen goes beyond a family tribute to bring them out of oblivion.
