How can popular music engage with sociological inquiry?
The contemporary world is undergoing profound changes (economic, technological,
cultural, etc.) that are upending our points of reference and giving rise, in various forms, to issues of identity and
debates surrounding the sense of belonging.
In this complex context, it may be interesting to ask a seemingly simple question:
What does it mean to be from somewhere? What roles do “roots” play in our lives? How do our
origins—whether here or elsewhere—shape us, and what do we make of them? A pretext for exploration,
drawing on iconic popular songs whose messages will guide our reflection
on the concepts of culture, immigration, integration, and identity.
An enjoyable and playful approach to simply understanding a major issue: Who are we?

Welke rol spelen onze „wortels“ in ons leven? Hoe
