Mayya Sanbar, Elias Sanbar

How do you grow up, love, and dream under occupation?

With her new production, *Shabaab*, director and choreographer Samar Haddad King tells the story of the deep friendship between two men, Mohamed and Mahmoud, two Palestinian friends who have been close since childhood. Together, they relive their memories, their bursts of laughter, their hopes for the future, but also the silences and sacrifices imposed by colonial violence.

On stage, a haunting puppet created by Sipho Ngxola serves as the vessel for the embodiment of their alter egos. Tuesday, October 13 at 7:00 p.m. - Tomato Turnovers - Fatayer bi banadoura

Hiba Najem
Let’s cook a traditional Lebanese dish together to soothe all our sorrows.

%AB I find an aesthetic quality in the details of everyday life; there’s a theatrical dimension to the act of cooking and eating. %BB Lebanese artist Hiba Najem loves sharing stories about food and cooking. So, for this culinary performance, she takes us to her mother’s village, Beit Chabeb, where women would gather around the stuffing and dough to make little tomato-stuffed pastries. As she cooks this forgotten rural dish right before our eyes, she recounts the stories of these women: toxic love, sexuality, relationships—life, death… Between letting the dough rise, preparing the filling, shaping the pastries (in which we all participate!), and baking them, this is a pure moment of tradition, craftsmanship, and ancestral stories… They say these little treats heal all sorrows. Enjoy them (at the end of the show)!

Khouloud Yassine
The dance unfolds in a continuous flow of transformations

A leading figure in the “new” Lebanese scene, Khouloud Yassine pursues choreographic research that examines the performativity of gender and the impact of hypermasculinity on the representation of the female body and its objectification.

In *Drill Baby Drill*—which was one of Donald Trump’s campaign slogans—she explores the cold brutality of a world dominated by militarized codes of power, sexual, and athletic codes of power, and the way these models shape our imagination. On stage, the dance unfolds as a continuous flow of transformations in which precise gestures, postures, glances, hybrid figures, and sustained rhythms reveal the influence of codes of masculinity and sometimes push them to the point of the grotesque. The accumulation and layering of movements convey a sense of saturation, reflecting our reality inundated with images.

Come crescere, amare e sognare sotto l’occupazione?

Dienstag, 13. Oktober, um 20 Uhr – „Drill baby drill“?

Khouloud Yassine
