Description
Description longue de la ressource.

Italien (Italie) DA QUALCHE PARTE, UN SENZATETTO SI SVEGLIA.

Espagnol EN ALGÚN LUGAR, UN SINTEJADO SE DESPIERTA.

Allemand (Allemagne) IRGENDWO WACHT EIN OBACHTLOSER AUF.

Néerlandais (Pays-Bas) ERGENS WORDT EEN DAKLOZE WAKKER.

Anglais SOMEWHERE, A HOMELESS MAN WAKES UP.

HE LIGHTS A CIGARETTE, TAKES A FEW SIPs FROM A CAN OF BEER, AND SPEAKS. HE KNOWS NO ONE IS LISTENING, BUT THAT’S PRECISELY WHY HE SPEAKS TO US, ALONE.

In his play %AB The Lonely Man %BB, Seb Lanz directs Fred Guittet, who weaves together—through the lens of his own life story—the testimonies of homeless people he met while patrolling the streets of Lyon.

This lonely man is the Saint Francis of Assisi from Christian Bobin’s novel *Le Très Bas*—stripped of everything, an inner philosopher.

Not by choice, no. He is a victim of circumstance, and he has chosen to accept his lot and imbue his existence with nobility; one can be truly beautiful even in decline.

With his shrewd tricks and beer cans, his bench, and above all his philosophy as his companions, he draws us into this world that feels as rich as it is poor, as violent as it is poetic—cruel but true.
