Allemand (Allemagne) Zum ersten Mal präsentiert das Mémorial de Caen eine Ausstellung, die dem subsaharischen Afrika, seiner Geschichte und seinen Künstlern gewidmet ist. Anhand von rund 60 Werken, die sowohl durch ihre Ästhetik als auch durch ihre Botschaften bemerkenswert sind, möchte das Museum die koloniale und postkoloniale Geschichte thematisieren.

Néerlandais (Pays-Bas) Voor het eerst organiseert het Mémorial de Caen een tentoonstelling gewijd aan Sub-Sahara-Afrika, zijn geschiedenis en zijn kunstenaars. Aan de hand van zo’n zestig opmerkelijke werken, die zowel qua esthetiek als qua boodschap indruk maken, wil het museum de koloniale en postkoloniale geschiedenis belichten, gezien door de ogen van Afrikaanse kunstenaars. Deze schilderijen, foto’s, sculpturen, textielwerken en films verkennen een proces van herinnering en historische herinterpretatie, waarbij rekening wordt gehouden met de geografische, politieke, culturele, religieuze en taalkundige verschillen.
De tentoonstelling is bij wijze van uitzondering gratis toegankelijk tot en met 30 augustus.

A través de unas sesenta obras destacadas, tanto por su estética como por sus mensajes, el museo pretende abordar la historia colonial y poscolonial tal y como la ven los artistas africanos. Estas pinturas, fotografías, esculturas, textiles y películas exploran un trabajo de memoria y de refundación histórica llevado a cabo respetando las diferencias geográficas, políticas, culturales, religiosas y lingüísticas.
Exposición excepcionalmente gratuita hasta el 30 de agosto.

Allemand (Allemagne) Zum ersten Mal präsentiert das Mémorial de Caen eine Ausstellung, die Subsahara-Afrika, seiner Geschichte und seinen Künstlern gewidmet ist. Anhand von rund sechzig Werken, die sowohl durch ihre Ästhetik als auch durch ihre Botschaften beeindrucken, möchte das Museum die koloniale und postkoloniale Geschichte aus der Sicht afrikanischer Künstler beleuchten. Diese Gemälde, Fotografien, Skulpturen, Textilien und Filme befassen sich mit der Aufarbeitung der Vergangenheit und der historischen Neugestaltung unter Berücksichtigung der geografischen, politischen, kulturellen, religiösen und sprachlichen Unterschiede.
Die Ausstellung ist bis zum 30. August ausnahmsweise kostenlos zugänglich.

Through some sixty works that are remarkable both for their aesthetic qualities and their messages, the museum aims to explore colonial and post-colonial history as seen through the eyes of African artists. These paintings, photographs, sculptures, textiles and films explore a process of remembrance and historical re-evaluation carried out with respect for geographical, political, cultural, religious and linguistic differences.
Admission is exceptionally free until 30 August.
