Tiene 94 años, se llama Irena y su aspecto no deja entrever las heroicas hazañas que llevó a cabo durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Ella y su red de mujeres salvaron a 2.500 niños judíos del gueto de Varsovia y de la deportación, arriesgando sus propias vidas.
Mientras tanto, tres estudiantes de Kansas investigan a este personaje desde su habitación, Irena evoca sus recuerdos y teje los fragmentos de un pensamiento que se desvanece, para que lo inimaginable no quede grabado para siempre... Navegando entre la ficción y la realidad histórica, entre el pasado y el presente, Irena narra los males de ayer para curar los de hoy, hace resonar los conceptos de valentía y humanidad, arroja luz tanto sobre la gran Historia como sobre las pequeñas. Pero en la vida no hay historias grandes ni pequeñas… ¡hay Vida!

Anglais Today, a Polish woman lives in a nursing home. She is 94 years old, her name is Irena, and her appearance gives no hint of the heroic deeds she performed during World War II. She and her network of women saved 2,500 Jewish children from the Warsaw Ghetto and deportation, risking their own lives in the process.
Meanwhile, three college students from Kansas are investigating this woman from her room, Irena summons her memories, weaving together the fragments of a fading thought, so that the unimaginable may never be forgotten... Navigating between fiction and historical reality, past and present, Irena recounts the evils of yesterday to heal those of today, giving voice to the notions of courage and humanity, sheds light on both the grand narrative of history and the small stories. But there are no big or small stories in life… there is only Life!

Ha 94 anni, si chiama Irena e il suo aspetto non lascia intuire le gesta eroiche compiute durante la Seconda Guerra Mondiale. Insieme alla sua rete di donne, ha salvato 2.500 bambini ebrei dal ghetto di Varsavia e dalla deportazione, mettendo a rischio la propria vita.

Allemand (Allemagne) Derzeit lebt eine Polin in einem Altenheim. Sie ist 94 Jahre alt, heißt Irena, und ihr Äußeres lässt nicht vermuten, welche heldenhaften Taten sie während des Zweiten Weltkriegs vollbracht hat. Sie und ihr Netzwerk von Frauen retteten unter Einsatz ihres Lebens 2.500 jüdische Kinder aus dem Warschauer Ghetto und vor der Deportation.
Währenddessen recherchieren drei Studentinnen aus Kansas von ihrem Zimmer aus über diese Person, ruft Irena ihre Erinnerungen wach und fügt die Fetzen eines schwindenden Gedankens zusammen, damit das Unvorstellbare %E0 für immer in Erinnerung bleibt... Zwischen Fiktion und historischer Realität, zwischen Vergangenheit und Gegenwart bewegend, erzählt Irena von den Übeln von gestern, um die von heute zu heilen, lässt die Begriffe Mut und Menschlichkeit widerhallen, %E9beleuchtet die große Geschichte und die kleinen Geschichten. Néerlandais (Pays-Bas) Momenteel woont een Poolse dame in een bejaardentehuis. Ze is 94 jaar oud, heet Irena en haar uiterlijk doet geen vermoeden van de heldhaftige daden die ze tijdens de Tweede Wereldoorlog heeft verricht. Zij en haar netwerk van vrouwen hebben 2.500 Joodse kinderen uit het getto van Warschau gered en zo voorkomen dat ze werden gedeporteerd, waarbij ze hun eigen leven op het spel zetten.
Terwijl ondertussen drie studentes uit Kansas vanuit haar kamer onderzoek doen naar deze vrouw, haalt Irena haar herinneringen op en weeft ze de flarden van een vervaagende gedachte samen, opdat het onvoorstelbare voor altijd in het geheugen gegrift blijft... Laat zich meevoeren tussen fictie en historische werkelijkheid, tussen verleden en heden, en vertelt Irena over het leed van gisteren om dat van vandaag te helen; ze laat de begrippen moed en menselijkheid weerklinken, en werpt licht op zowel de grote als de kleine verhalen.
