A medio camino entre la parodia victoriana y el vodevil macabro, esta obra a puerta cerrada reinventa la historia a base de malentendidos, anacronismos deliberados, juegos de palabras y cambios de tono. Macnaghten, de onverwachte nieuwe chef van Scotland Yard – gepromoveerd omdat hij slaagde waar anderen faalden? – schept op en blikt terug op het succes van zijn onderzoek onder het toeziend oog van Andrew Long, een journalist die even nieuwsgierig als plagerig is. Zal de waarheid wel de waarheid blijken te zijn?
