Description longue de la ressource.

Anglais Roof finials are decorative roof ornaments that also serve a practical purpose. Today, they are made of zinc or industrial terracotta. In the past, potters made them from glazed ceramic. You can still see them here and there, particularly in the Pays d’Othe region. In the Aube department, Villadin and Amance were major production centers. The Saint-Loup Museum houses a rich collection of anthropomorphic “épis” from Villadin that are instantly recognizable. In the Sézanne region, they tended to be cones topped with a bulb.

For several years now, a team of enthusiasts led by Vincent Caputo, a delegatefrom the Fondation du Patrimoine, has undertaken to catalog and study the %E9pis still in place as well as those preserved in museums or in private collections. Following two temporary exhibitions in Villadin, a book was published in 2025. A larger-scale exhibition in Troyes is in the works.
