Description longue de la ressource.

Anglais The Lormandière lime kilns are located in Chartres-de-Bretagne, 10 km south of Rennes.
This former industrial site, made up of lawns, meadows and woodland, is home to 500 plant species. The limestone subsoil has favored the establishment of a particular flora. More than twenty rare species are present, including some very beautiful orchids. The former quarry is now home to a lake. A discovery trail has been laid out to bring this natural and industrial heritage back to life.
The Lormandière site is famous for its limestone subsoil, which is rare in Brittany, and was exploited from 1853 onwards to manufacture lime. At the beginning of the 20th century, the "Société des fours à chaux de Lormandière et de la Chaussairie réunis" was the largest lime producer in Brittany. But what exactly is lime? It's the result of calcining limestone. From the 19th century onwards, the quicklime obtained was used as an agricultural amendment to improve the quality of acid soils. Lime is also used in the construction industry. Closed in 1938, the rehabilitated industrial site is now a fully integrated industrial heritage site.
The Lormandière site is classified as a Natural Zone of Ecological, Floristic and Faunistic Interest (ZNIEFF), as it is home to some remarkable plants, including rare orchids: the bee orchid, the pyramidal orchid and the goat orchid.
