"As part of the Bicentenary of Photography, the Académie François Bourdon is presenting the exhibition ‘Photography and Science: Witnesses to the Industrial World’ at the Pavillon de l’Industrie from 8 October 2026 to 5 September 2027.

Born out of a scientific endeavour, photography has become a tool capable of revealing the invisible: that which is too small, too fast or too distant. Through a prologue dedicated to Nicéphore Niépce, four sections (invention, matter, movement, Le Creusot) and an epilogue on today’s scientific imagery, the exhibition explores how the image has advanced research and documented the industrial world.

In Le Creusot, photography was used to examine the interior of steel, to take measurements, to test the strength of armour plating, to reproduce workshop plans and to photograph the town and its inhabitants. The exhibition illustrates this through the collections of the François Bourdon Academy and those of its partners: a reproduction of the ‘Point de vue du Gras’, a Chevenard photographic cage, a Merlin Gerin high-speed camera, autochrome plates, cameras, portraits, aerial views…

Exhibition accredited as part of the Bicentenary of Photography by the Ministry of Culture."@en .
