Français (France) Cherré-Au est une commune nouvelle regroupant depuis 2019 les com-munes de Cherré et Cherreau situés à l’est de La Ferté-Bernard.
De tout temps, le village de Cherreau fut intimement lié à la ville voisine de La Ferté Bernard. En effet, au Moyen Âge, les seigneurs de La Ferté relè-vent l’abbaye de la Pelice à la fin du XIIe siècle. Puis, au XIVe siècle, le do-maine de la Plaisse est rattaché à celui de La Ferté. Plus près de nous, lorsque la ville de La Ferté-Bernard s’étend au XIXe siècle, elle empiète sur Cherreau dont elle annexe en 1889 le faubourg du Gué-Faux et la Fosse Fondue, bordant la route de Paris.
