Er ist aus seinem Land geflohen. Er erzählt uns von seiner schrecklichen Reise. Er selbst hat es bis zum Ende geschafft. Aber hier, im begehrten gelobten Land, im Land des Glücks, wie sie es nennen, zeigt sich sein wahres Gesicht, das des moralischen und materiellen Elends. Man muss in den Hotels putzen, in baufälligen Gebäuden wohnen und auf den harten Baustellen arbeiten. Man muss Geld nach Hause schicken, koste es, was es wolle, auch wenn die Familie einen nach und nach vergisst. Er war von dort, er kam hierher, und dieses Hier wird er nie wieder verlassen können.

Il faut faire le ménage dans les hôtels, vivre dans des immeubles délabrés, travailler sur les durs chantiers. Il faut envoyer de l’argent au pays, coûte que coûte, même si la famille vous oublie peu à peu. Il était de là bas, il est venu ici, et cet ici il ne pourra plus jamais le quitter.
