Description longue de la ressource.
Anglais The Third Reich’s repressive apparatus in France during the Occupation was based on the Security Police (SIPO), which included the Gestapo. It established itself discreetly in France as early as the summer of 1940 in Burgundy and Franche-Comté with a very small contingent. In 1942, Dijon became the headquarters of its regional command, to which the Besançon branch – comprising a dozen men – reported. Based at the Hôtel de Lorraine opposite Viotte station (now the Ibis Hotel), it moved at the end of July 1943 following the British bombing of Viotte station.
It then moved to the Hôtel de Clévans on Rue Lecourbe, where a cell still stands as a reminder of this painful past. The plaster walls are covered with inscriptions left by members of the Resistance who passed through there before being interrogated and tortured in the basement.
Mr Jean-Claude Bonnot has just published a book with Cêtre Publishers entitled: *La SIPO-SD: A Police Force at War. The Gestapo in Burgundy-Franche-Comté 1940–1945*.
The Collectif Histoire des Chaprais is organising a talk with the author on Thursday 5 November 2026, at 2.30 pm, in the Salle Battant, 48 Rue Battant. Admission is free.
