Inspiriert von Émile Zolas Meisterwerk „Germinal“ (La Gueule noire) begleitet das Stück Étienne Lantier, einen jungen Arbeiter, der von einem tiefen Verlangen nach Gerechtigkeit angetrieben wird.
Aus seiner Perspektive erzählt das Stück vom Alltag der Bergleute, ihren schwierigen Lebensbedingungen, ihrer Solidarität und ihrem Kampf für eine bessere Zukunft.
Auf der Bühne trägt eine Schauspielerin diese Geschichte mit großer Intensität vor, begleitet von einem Sounddesigner, der die Musik live komponiert. Zwischen Human Beatbox, sich wiederholenden Klängen und industriellen Stimmungen erwacht das Bergwerk zum Leben und wird zu einer eigenständigen Figur.
