En accord avec sa famille et comme prévu initialement, Cuiseaux a souhaité rendre hommage au travail de cet artiste majeur. Né en 1957 à Saint-Étienne, Philippe Favier suit un parcours atypique. Peu attiré par les études classiques, il débute comme dessinateur de presse tout en exerçant le métier d’infirmier psychiatrique à l’hôpital de Saint-. Il reprend simultanément ses études en cours du soir, obtient son baccalauréat puis intègre l’École des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne dont il sort diplômé en 1984. Dès 1981, il est exposé au Musée d’Art moderne de Paris, et en 1985 est lauréat du Prix de Rome. Très tôt, il développe un univers reconnaissable entre tous. Son travail se caractérise par une grande inventivité et par l’usage de matériaux simples issus de la récupération : cartes anciennes, albums de famille, boîtes ou objets du quotidien détournés de leur fonction initiale. À travers ces supports modestes, il construit une œuvre sensible et poétique. Artiste de renommée internationale, ses créations ont rejoint les collections de nombreuses institutions, en France et à l’étranger. Le travail de Philippe Desloubières sera également présenté. Inspiré par le monde végétal, il crée des sculptures aux formes libres, calmes et équilibrées. À partir de feuilles d’acier qu’il découpe, plie et assemble, il donne au métal du mouvement et une certaine souplesse. Ses œuvres évoquent des formes naturelles — feuilles, tiges, éclosions — sans chercher à les reproduire fidèlement. Cette liberté formelle ouvre l’imaginaire et crée un ensemble à la fois simple, léger et accessible. Voilà 20 ans que l’artiste s’est établi dans la Somme. Une région réputée pour ses entreprises industrielles tournées vers la métallurgie. Le terroir quasi naturel de cet artiste hors normes, qui cultive la discrétion mais essaime ses germinations épurées aux 4 coins du monde. En mémoire de Philippe Favier, les publics associés sont invités à réaliser des œuvres autour du thème « L’art est dans la boîte ». Fidèle à l’esprit de la Biennale, cette initiative vise à faire vivre l’art en milieu rural et à impliquer largement les habitants. Scolaires, résidents d’EHPAD, personnes en situation de handicap, jeunes de la Mission locale, structures sociales et culturelles, ainsi que des habitants de Cuiseaux et des communes environnantes participeront à ce projet collectif. Ces créations seront exposées dans le centre historique de Cuiseaux. Les visiteurs pourront également découvrir le salon des artistes régionaux invités par l’association, les œuvres de Dom Angelico Surchamp présentées dans l’église Saint-Thomas, ainsi que les sculptures de Bernard Blaise installées dans le parc de l’Hôtel Nayme. Par ailleurs, durant deux week-ends de septembre (12-13 et 19-20), le public sera invité à parcourir le centre médiéval de Cuiseaux à travers des expositions installées dans les maisons et les jardins des habitants. La Biennale des Arts de Cuiseaux, c’est tout un réseau de bénévoles, de partenaires et d’acteurs locaux qui se mobilisent pour accueillir à chaque édition près de 8 000 visiteurs venus de toute l’Europe, au cœur du pays de Vuillard et de Puvis de Chavannes. Nato nel 1957 a Saint-Étienne, Philippe Favier ha seguito un percorso atipico. Poco attratto dagli studi classici, ha esordito come disegnatore di stampa, esercitando al contempo la professione di infermiere psichiatrico all’ospedale di Saint-. Contemporaneamente riprende gli studi frequentando corsi serali, consegue la maturità e poi entra all’École des Beaux-Arts di Saint-Étienne, dove si diploma nel 1984. Già dal 1981 espone al Museo d’Arte Moderna di Parigi e nel 1985 viene insignito del Prix de Rome. Fin da subito sviluppa un universo artistico immediatamente riconoscibile. Il suo lavoro si caratterizza per una grande inventiva e per l’uso di materiali semplici provenienti dal riciclo: vecchie cartoline, album di famiglia, scatole o oggetti di uso quotidiano privati della loro funzione originaria. Attraverso questi supporti modesti, costruisce un’opera sensibile e poetica. Artista di fama internazionale, le sue creazioni sono entrate a far parte delle collezioni di numerose istituzioni, in Francia e all’estero. Sarà inoltre presentato il lavoro di Philippe Desloubières. Ispirato dal mondo vegetale, crea sculture dalle forme libere, tranquille ed equilibrate. Partendo da lamiere d’acciaio che ritaglia, piega e assembla, conferisce al metallo movimento e una certa flessibilità. Le sue opere evocano forme naturali – foglie, steli, germogli – senza cercare di riprodurle fedelmente. Questa libertà formale stimola l’immaginazione e crea un insieme al tempo stesso semplice, leggero e accessibile. Sono ormai 20 anni che l’artista si è stabilito nella Somme, una regione rinomata per le sue imprese industriali orientate alla metallurgia. Il territorio quasi naturale di questo artista fuori dal comune, che coltiva la discrezione ma diffonde le sue creazioni raffinate ai quattro angoli del mondo. In memoria di Philippe Favier, il pubblico coinvolto è invitato a realizzare opere sul tema «L’arte è nella scatola». Fedele allo spirito della Biennale, questa iniziativa mira a far vivere l’arte in ambito rurale e a coinvolgere ampiamente gli abitanti. Scolari, residenti delle case di riposo, persone con disabilità, giovani della “Mission locale”, strutture sociali e culturali, nonché gli abitanti di Cuiseaux e dei comuni limitrofi parteciperanno a questo progetto collettivo. Queste creazioni saranno esposte nel centro storico di Cuiseaux. I visitatori potranno inoltre scoprire il salone degli artisti regionali invitati dall’associazione, le opere di Dom Angelico Surchamp esposte nella chiesa di Saint-Thomas, nonché le sculture di Bernard Blaise collocate nel parco dell’Hôtel Nayme. Inoltre, durante due fine settimana di settembre (12-13 e 19-20), il pubblico sarà invitato a visitare il centro medievale di Cuiseaux attraverso mostre allestite nelle case e nei giardini degli abitanti. De acuerdo con su familia y tal y como estaba previsto inicialmente, Cuiseaux ha querido rendir homenaje a la obra de este destacado artista. Nacido en 1957 en Saint-Étienne, Philippe Favier siguió una trayectoria atípica. Poco atraído por los estudios clásicos, comenzó como dibujante de prensa al tiempo que ejercía la profesión de enfermero psiquiátrico en el hospital de Saint-. Al mismo tiempo, retomó sus estudios en cursos nocturnos, obtuvo el bachillerato y luego ingresó en la Escuela de Bellas Artes de Saint-Étienne, donde se graduó en 1984. A partir de láminas de acero que recorta, dobla y ensambla, confiere al metal movimiento y cierta flexibilidad. Sus obras evocan formas naturales —hojas, tallos, brotes— sin pretender reproducirlas fielmente. Esta libertad formal abre el imaginario y crea un conjunto a la vez sencillo, ligero y accesible. Hace ya 20 años que el artista se estableció en la Somme, una región famosa por sus empresas industriales dedicadas a la metalurgia. El entorno casi natural de este artista fuera de lo común, que cultiva la discreción pero difunde sus creaciones depuradas por los cuatro rincones del mundo. En memoria de Philippe Favier, se invita al público asociado a crear obras en torno al tema «El arte está en la caja». Fiel al espíritu de la Bienal, esta iniciativa tiene como objetivo dar vida al arte en el medio rural e implicar ampliamente a los habitantes. Alumnos, residentes de residencias de la tercera edad, personas con discapacidad, jóvenes de la «Mission locale», entidades sociales y culturales, así como habitantes de Cuiseaux y de los municipios vecinos participarán en este proyecto colectivo. Estas creaciones se expondrán en el centro histórico de Cuiseaux. Los visitantes también podrán descubrir la exposición de artistas regionales invitados por la asociación, las obras de Dom Angelico Surchamp expuestas en la iglesia de Saint-Thomas, así como las esculturas de Bernard Blaise instaladas en el parque del Hôtel Nayme. It was on 7 March that we learnt of the death of Philippe Favier in a car accident. In agreement with his family and as originally planned, Cuiseaux wished to pay tribute to the work of this major artist. Born in 1957 in Saint-Étienne, Philippe Favier followed an unconventional path. With little interest in traditional academic studies, he began his career as a press cartoonist whilst working as a psychiatric nurse at the hospital in Saint-Étienne. At the same time, he resumed his studies through evening classes, obtained his baccalaureate and then enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts de Saint-Étienne, from which he graduated in 1984. As early as 1981, his work was exhibited at the Musée d’Art Moderne in Paris, and in 1985 he was awarded the Prix de Rome. Very early on, he developed a highly distinctive artistic style. His work is characterised by great inventiveness and the use of simple, recycled materials: old postcards, family photo albums, boxes and everyday objects repurposed from their original functions. Through these humble materials, he creates a sensitive and poetic body of work. An internationally renowned artist, his creations have been acquired by the collections of numerous institutions, both in France and abroad. The work of Philippe Desloubières will also be on display. Inspired by the plant world, he creates sculptures with free-form, calm and balanced shapes. Using sheets of steel that he cuts, bends and assembles, he imbues the metal with movement and a certain suppleness. His works evoke natural forms — leaves, stems, buds — without seeking to reproduce them faithfully. This formal freedom stimulates the imagination and creates a body of work that is at once simple, light and accessible. The artist has been based in the Somme for 20 years. A region renowned for its industrial enterprises specialising in metallurgy. This is the almost natural setting for this extraordinary artist, who cultivates a low profile yet spreads his refined creations to the four corners of the world. In memory of Philippe Favier, the participating groups are invited to create works based on the theme ‘Art is in the box’. True to the spirit of the Biennale, this initiative aims to bring art to life in rural areas and to involve local residents on a large scale. Schoolchildren, residents of care homes, people with disabilities, young people from the Mission Locale, social and cultural organisations, as well as residents of Cuiseaux and neighbouring towns will take part in this collective project. These creations will be exhibited in the historic centre of Cuiseaux. Visitors will also be able to explore the exhibition of regional artists invited by the association, the works of Dom Angelico Surchamp on display in Saint-Thomas Church, and the sculptures by Bernard Blaise installed in the grounds of the Hôtel Nayme. Furthermore, over two weekends in September (12–13 and 19–20), the public will be invited to explore the medieval centre of Cuiseaux through exhibitions set up in residents’ homes and gardens. Am 7. März dieses Jahres erfuhren wir vom Tod von Philippe Favier bei einem Autounfall. In Absprache mit seiner Familie und wie ursprünglich geplant möchte Cuiseaux das Werk dieses bedeutenden Künstlers würdigen. Philippe Favier wurde 1957 in Saint-Étienne geboren und schlug einen ungewöhnlichen Weg ein. Da ihn ein klassisches Studium wenig reizte, begann er als Pressezeichner zu arbeiten, während er gleichzeitig als psychiatrischer Krankenpfleger im Krankenhaus von Saint-Étienne tätig war. Gleichzeitig nahm er sein Studium in Abendkursen wieder auf, erwarb sein Abitur und schrieb sich anschließend an der École des Beaux-Arts in Saint-Étienne ein, die er 1984 mit einem Diplom abschloss. Bereits 1981 wurden seine Werke im Musée d’Art moderne in Paris ausgestellt, und 1985 wurde er mit dem Prix de Rome ausgezeichnet. Schon sehr früh entwickelte er ein unverwechselbares künstlerisches Universum. Sein Werk zeichnet sich durch große Kreativität und die Verwendung einfacher, wiederverwerteter Materialien aus: alte Karten, Familienalben, Schachteln oder Alltagsgegenstände, die ihrer ursprünglichen Funktion entzogen wurden. Aus diesen bescheidenen Materialien schafft er ein einfühlsames und poetisches Werk. Als international renommierter Künstler sind seine Werke in die Sammlungen zahlreicher Institutionen in Frankreich und im Ausland aufgenommen worden. Ebenfalls vorgestellt wird das Werk von Philippe Desloubières. Inspiriert von der Pflanzenwelt schafft er Skulpturen mit freien, ruhigen und ausgewogenen Formen. Aus Stahlblechen, die er zuschneidet, biegt und zusammenfügt, verleiht er dem Metall Bewegung und eine gewisse Geschmeidigkeit. Seine Werke erinnern an natürliche Formen – Blätter, Stiele, Knospen –, ohne diese originalgetreu nachzubilden. Diese formale Freiheit regt die Fantasie an und schafft ein Gesamtbild, das zugleich schlicht, leicht und zugänglich ist. Seit 20 Jahren hat sich der Künstler in der Somme niedergelassen. Eine Region, die für ihre auf die Metallverarbeitung ausgerichteten Industriebetriebe bekannt ist. Der fast schon natürliche Lebensraum dieses außergewöhnlichen Künstlers, der zwar Zurückhaltung pflegt, seine puristischen Kreationen jedoch in alle Ecken der Welt verbreitet. Zum Gedenken an Philippe Favier sind die beteiligten Zielgruppen eingeladen, Werke rund um das Thema „Kunst steckt in der Schachtel“ zu schaffen. Getreu dem Geist der Biennale zielt diese Initiative darauf ab, Kunst im ländlichen Raum lebendig werden zu lassen und die Einwohner umfassend einzubeziehen. Schüler, Bewohner von Seniorenheimen, Menschen mit Behinderung, Jugendliche der „Mission locale“, soziale und kulturelle Einrichtungen sowie Einwohner von Cuiseaux und den umliegenden Gemeinden werden an diesem Gemeinschaftsprojekt teilnehmen. Diese Kreationen werden in der Altstadt von Cuiseaux ausgestellt. Die Besucher können zudem die Ausstellung der vom Verein eingeladenen regionalen Künstler, die in der Saint-Thomas-Kirche präsentierten Werke von Dom Angelico Surchamp sowie die im Park des Hôtel Nayme aufgestellten Skulpturen von Bernard Blaise entdecken. Zudem ist die Öffentlichkeit an zwei Wochenenden im September (12.–13. und 19.–20.) eingeladen, das mittelalterliche Zentrum von Cuiseaux anhand von Ausstellungen zu erkunden, die in den Häusern und Gärten der Einwohner eingerichtet sind. Die Biennale des Arts de Cuiseaux ist ein ganzes Netzwerk aus Freiwilligen, Partnern und lokalen Akteuren, die sich engagieren, um bei jeder Ausgabe fast 8.000 Besucher aus ganz Europa im Herzen des Landes von Vuillard und Puvis de Chavannes willkommen zu heißen. In overleg met zijn familie en zoals aanvankelijk gepland, wilde Cuiseaux hulde brengen aan het werk van deze belangrijke kunstenaar. Philippe Favier, geboren in 1957 in Saint-Étienne, volgde een atypisch parcours. Omdat hij zich niet aangetrokken voelde tot de klassieke opleiding, begon hij als perscartoonist terwijl hij tegelijkertijd als psychiatrisch verpleger werkte in het ziekenhuis van Saint-. Tegelijkertijd hervatte hij zijn studie via avondcursussen, behaalde zijn baccalaureaat en ging vervolgens naar de École des Beaux-Arts van Saint-Étienne, waar hij in 1984 afstudeerde. Al in 1981 werd zijn werk tentoongesteld in het Musée d’Art moderne in Parijs, en in 1985 won hij de Prix de Rome. Al heel vroeg ontwikkelde hij een onmiskenbaar eigen stijl. Zijn werk wordt gekenmerkt door een grote vindingrijkheid en het gebruik van eenvoudige, gerecyclede materialen: oude kaarten, familiealbums, doosjes of alledaagse voorwerpen die een andere bestemming hebben gekregen dan waarvoor ze oorspronkelijk bedoeld waren. Met deze bescheiden materialen creëert hij een gevoelig en poëtisch oeuvre. Als kunstenaar van internationale faam zijn zijn werken opgenomen in de collecties van talrijke instellingen, zowel in Frankrijk als in het buitenland. Ook het werk van Philippe Desloubières zal te zien zijn. Geïnspireerd door de plantenwereld creëert hij sculpturen met vrije, rustige en evenwichtige vormen. Door staalplaten te knippen, te buigen en in elkaar te zetten, geeft hij het metaal beweging en een zekere soepelheid. Zijn werken roepen natuurlijke vormen op – bladeren, stengels, knoppen – zonder deze getrouw te willen weergeven. Deze vormelijke vrijheid prikkelt de verbeelding en creëert een geheel dat tegelijkertijd eenvoudig, licht en toegankelijk is. Het is nu twintig jaar geleden dat de kunstenaar zich in de Somme vestigde. Een regio die bekendstaat om zijn industriële bedrijven die zich richten op de metaalindustrie. De bijna natuurlijke omgeving van deze buitengewone kunstenaar, die discretie hoog in het vaandel heeft staan, maar zijn verfijnde creaties naar alle uithoeken van de wereld verspreidt. Ter nagedachtenis aan Philippe Favier worden de betrokken groepen uitgenodigd om kunstwerken te maken rond het thema %AB Kunst zit in de doos %BB. Trouw aan de geest van de Biënnale heeft dit initiatief tot doel de kunst in landelijke gebieden tot leven te brengen en de bewoners er op grote schaal bij te betrekken. Scholieren, bewoners van verzorgingstehuizen, mensen met een beperking, jongeren van de Mission locale, sociale en culturele instellingen, evenals inwoners van Cuiseaux en de omliggende gemeenten zullen aan dit collectieve project deelnemen. Deze creaties zullen worden tentoongesteld in het historische centrum van Cuiseaux. Bezoekers kunnen ook kennismaken met de tentoonstelling van regionale kunstenaars die door de vereniging zijn uitgenodigd, de werken van Dom Angelico Surchamp die in de Sint-Thomaskerk worden tentoongesteld, en de sculpturen van Bernard Blaise die in het park van het Hôtel Nayme zijn opgesteld. Daarnaast wordt het publiek tijdens twee weekenden in september (12-13 en 19-20) uitgenodigd om het middeleeuwse centrum van Cuiseaux te verkennen via tentoonstellingen die zijn opgezet in de huizen en tuinen van de inwoners.
