1. At the end of the Brès car park (no markings), take the stairs and the path up to the castle of Queen Jeanne (10th century), the daughter of Charles Martel who was proclaimed Queen of Naples at the age of 14. From this 252 m high point, there is a magical view of the village and the Provencal plain. Pass in front of the cemetery and continue on the road that runs alongside the sports complex on the plateau. When you arrive at a large earthen car park (alt. 244 m), take the second track on the right (barrier). At the crow's feet, follow the left track (possibility to go back and forth to the orientation table on the left). Beautiful view on the Luberon massif, Sainte-Victoire, the village of Eguilles and the Etoile chain. The track goes down eastwards in a beautiful flowery scrubland and, in three bends, joins the D 64 (barrier and sign of the Conseil Général 13). Follow the D 64 on the right (taking care to walk on the left side of the road, be careful!). After 200 m, turn left onto the "chemin des Marseillais" (Rigouès- Le Ginestié). Further on, ignore "Le Ginestié" on the left and continue on the dirt road. Pass a car park on the left and a barrier (1st yellow marker on a post). At the fork in the road, follow the yellow markings to the right which, after a short climb, will take you to the hunters' car park (alt. 190 m).
2. Take on the left the track AR 117 marked in yellow and follow it mainly towards the East.
At the next crossroads (large pine tree), continue to the left, then leave the yellow track and immediately turn right onto an unmarked stony track which descends south-east.
At the crow's feet, continue on the right and at the next crossroads, go straight on (south-west) on a very pleasant unmarked forest track which brings you to the canal of Marseille. Follow the canal on sight, staying on the main track that goes down to a bridge (alt. 168 m).
3. At the bridge (do not cross it), go back up on the yellow marked track. At the fork in the road, continue to the right and climb with the yellow markings to the plateau. At the barrier (yellow cross), follow the track due south on the left which leads you in 5 minutes to the Camp of Marius, archaeological site of a Celto-Ligurian oppidum, stronghold of the 1st century BC. As you cross the oppidum, you can see one of the ancient poternes (fortification gates) open in the surrounding wall and the remains of a settlement
If you continue for another 5 minutes to the end of the plateau, you will have a bird's eye view of the Aqueduct of Roquefavour.
4. It is a superb work which is offered to your eyes! Built in five years from 1842 to 1847, it allows the waters of the canal of Marseille to cross the valley of the Arc. 80 m high and 400 m long, it is the largest stone aqueduct in the world!
From the Aqueduct, retrace your steps due north to the barrier (10 mn) and continue opposite on the yellow marked track to the hunters' car park. Beautiful escapes through the pines on the plateau of Cengle and Sainte-Victoire! From the car park, return to Ventabren by the same route as the outward journey in the opposite direction.
