On stage, seven acrobats and three musicians create a universal language: contortions, juggling, Chinese pole, balancing acts, diabolo, teeter-bobs, aerial hoops, and acrobatics blend and intertwine in a choral performance. Circus arts tell the stories of bodies and their histories, transforming challenges into opportunities and inviting us to feel what connects us all. The show navigates a series of familiar situations. In these ordinary moments, cultural differences, awkwardness, tensions, and laughter emerge. Each person seeks balance, adjusts their pace, and invents their own language. Little by little, the contrasts fade away; restraint gives way to spontaneity and generous exuberance; individuals come together as a group; and differences become a force in motion. All the artists of Phare, The Cambodian Circus come from “Phare Ponleu Selpak” (“the light of the arts” in Khmer), a Cambodian school founded in 1994 where artistic practice serves as a tool for personal growth and social support for the most disadvantaged.
