Français (France) L’ancien palais des Archevêques de Tours (IVe – XVIIIe s.), aujourd’hui musée des Beaux-arts, figure parmi les sites majeurs du Val de Loire. D’une richesse remarquable, il conserve l’une des plus importantes collections de primitifs italiens de France et présente, parmi ses chefs-d’œuvre, deux célèbres panneaux de Mantegna ainsi que des peintures de Rembrandt, Rubens et un exceptionnel ensemble de morceaux de réception à l’Académie royale de peinture. Dans les salons de réception, les œuvres de Boucher, Perronneau, Nattier, voisinent avec un riche mobilier qui évoque le faste du XVIIIe siècle. Les grands courants esthétiques du XIXe siècle sont représentés par des artistes tels que Delacroix, Degas, Monet, Rodin.

The remarkable museum has one of the biggest collections of Italian Primitives in France and its masterpieces include two famous panels by Mantegna, paintings by Rembrandt, Rubens and a fantastic group of reception pieces submitted to the French Royal Painting Academy. Pieces by Boucher, Perronneau and Nattier stand next to fabulous furniture oozing 18th century pomp in the reception rooms. Delacroix, Degas, Monet, Rodin and Ziem reflect the 19th century. The 20th century collection features work by Calder, Ernst, Hantaï, Monory and Debré.

Français (France) Le majestueux cèdre plus que bicentenaire à l’entrée du musée domine la cour où l’éléphant Fritz, qui fut abattu sur la place Nicolas Frumeaud en 1903, est exposé au public. Plus loin, le jardin régulier dit « à la Française » fut réaménagé en 1911, ceint parc des ifs taillés en créneaux, est composé de deux parterres en mosaïculture. Un ancien boulingrin, étendu de pelouses servant autrefois de terrain pour le jeu de boules en occupe le centre. Le fond du jardin, proche du style anglais, est composé de rosiers grimpants et d’arbres divers tels que micocouliers, mûriers, marronniers, tilleuls et charmes.

Anglais The staggering cedar tree at the museum entrance is over 200 years old and towers over the courtyard where the Fritz elephant greets visitors and was built on Place Nicolas Frumeaud in 1903. Venture a little further to the “French-style” garden which was redesigned in 1911 around a group of rectangular yew trees with two carpet bedding schemes. A lawn that was once used to play boules covers the centre. The English-style bottom of the garden features climbing roses and a variety of trees such as hackberry, bramble, chestnut, lime and hornbeam trees.
